Education Department

Chandernagore Municipal Corporation has been empowered to manage and maintain all Educational Institution (Primary, Secondary and Higher Secondary) which were managed and maintained by the then French Government.

There is an Education Committee as per Chandernagore Municipal corporation (Education Committee) Rules, 2001 which is the "Managing Committee" for all Primary Secondary and Higher Secondary Institutions. It is important to mention that the Education Committee was first formed under the Chandernagore Municipal (Education Committee) Rules,1957.

Before 27th Nov, 1947	Before declaration of Chandernagore as "Ville Libre" i.e. free city: - All Schools of Chandernagore were managed and financed by the then FRENCH GOVT.
Up to 9th June 1952	Before De-Jure Transfer/Merger with Indian Union: - The Schools were managed & financed by the "FREE CITY ADMINISTRATION"
Up to 1st October, 1954	The Schools were under the control, management of Central Govt. (Govt. of India)
2nd October, 1954	The Schools were under the Control, management of the State of West Bengal (Govt. of W.B.)
1955	The Schools were under the Control & management Chandernagore Municipal Corporation As per Provision of - The Report of Jha Commission, Decision of the Parliament dt.8th May 1954, Merger Act 1954 and Chandernagore Municipal Corporation Act,1955
1957	The schools were specifically controlled and managed by the Education Committee of Chandernagore Municipal Corporation as per Chandernagore Municipal Corporation Act,1955 & Education Committee Rules 1957, as amended time to time
30 December 1994	The Chandernagore Municipal Corporation Act,1990 came into force.
2001	The New Education Committee Rules- Chandernagore Municipal Corporation (Education Committee) Rules 2001, as amended, time to time.
